Silmaco completely endorses the principles of the Responsible Care-programme. In the organisation, we draw a lot of attention to the safety of man and environment when manufacturing, working with and processing our products. Because of their inorganic and non-toxic character, sodium silicates already have a good environmental reputation; when applying the Responsible Care-programme in our complete company policy, we wish to strengthen this favourable situation. | ||
| Because of its inorganic character,
sodium silicates do not significantly influence the
natural cycles. After being used, they mostly occur in a
highly diluted liquid form and do not have a relevant
influence on the environment. Only in concentrated form
(e.g. in an accident) their high alkalinity may cause
certain effects. If in such case you remove the product
as much as possible and dilute the rest with water, the
effects to be expected will be minimal. The SiO2 ending up in the environment will be absorbed in the natural cycles of this material without further consequences. In other words, it will return to its original condition as a raw material and will - so to speak - recycle itself. |
